Special Guest at Horrorfind Weekend 13!
I have been asked to be a Special Guest this year at Horrorfind Weekend 13, which will be taking place September 2–4, 2011 in Gettysburg, PA. I’m honored, and am very much looking forward to the convention. If you’re in the area and/or are thinking of coming to Horrorfind this year, it promises to be a really great event.
I will have a table in the Celebrity Room along with Brian Keene and fellow Special Guest, Kelli Owen, where we will be signing books all weekend long. It looks like I will also have an hour-long reading and/or Q&A slot, as well — details to be announced as they are confirmed.
Hope to see you there!
Post WHC Update
So I’m back from WHC, and I had a wonderful time. I do believe Nate, Lee, and company put on one of the best WHCs I’ve ever been to. Got to see a bunch of old friends and make a bunch of new ones. I read from THRALL, signed books, met awesome folks I’ve so far only talked to online, and just really, truly enjoyed myself. One of the highlights of the weekend was a trip with Brian, Kelli, Bob, and Russ to downtown Austin, and that same crew hanging in the hotel hot tub, before B and I signed sig sheets for an upcoming project.
Best of all, I got to spend some truly great moments with Brian. He really is the love of my life, and he makes me happy and glowy. He has returned the brightest stars to my sky, and I can’t wait to be married to him.
To Brian, Kelli, Bob, Russ, Sarah, Rhodi and Hank, Dallas, Paul W., Peter, Paul G. and his wife, Leigh, Cargill and Jessica, Mamatas, Nick K., Paul T., Bret and Sandra, Vincent, John L., Mikal, John F., Von, Weston, Kyle, Rose, Carlton, Jeff, Tod, Eddie, Wrath and Christie, Nate, Lee, Gene, Serena, Bradley, Abigail, Rain, Papa Graves, Muppet, Tim, Danny, the Antartic Press guys, Tony and Kim, Joe, Kasey, Lincoln, Chad, Kelly, all the folks that came to hear me and B read, and all the folks who helped make WHC such an incredible experience — thank you. You folks are great, and it was really wonderful seeing you.
Newsy update to follow….

How To Break In To Comics
4:00 PM Saturday, April 30–Phoenix Central
Steve Niles, Joe Hill, Brian Keene, Joe Lansdale, James Chambers
Comics are fun! Comics are colorful! Comics are…gross? The rise of an adult audience for comics means that horror is back in all its four-panel glory, but what does it take to write for the comics industry? Do you need art skills, or an artist of your own? Can a beginner get a crack at established characters? No cliffhangers here, we’ll just tell you!
Things We Used To Care About
5:00 PM Saturday, April 30–Dezavala
Brian Keene (M), Chad Savage, Lois Gresh, Kelly Laymon, Rain Graves, Chad Hensley
Splatterpunk versus quiet horror! Dare you publish a story on the Internet?? Which email newsletter should I read first? Will role-playing games save the genre? And how’s about all those great new small presses that are being founded every month? On this panel we talk about the old controversies and contentious issues that history has solved for us.
MASS SIGNING!
7:30–10:00 PM Saturday, April 30–Phoenix Central
2011 to be a Busy Year!
I’ve updated my schedule of appearances for the year. Barring acts of God or alien abduction, I should be at those conventions and events listed on the Appearances page. I will also being doing a live chat with Jason Miller — details coming soon.
Regarding upcoming work, there’s not much I can formally announce, but what I can say is that Thrall should be out in about 2-3 weeks. My novella, Possessing Amy, should be out later this year — more news on that to follow. My article on “Mood and Atmosphere in Horror” is scheduled to appear in Many Genres One Craft this spring. There is also a possibility that Under Cover of Night, my short story collection from 2002, will be released in Kindle version, with a bonus story included. I’ll keep folks updated on that. I’m working on two other novellas and a novel, and have a few other projects in mind or in the works.
2011 is shaping up to be a very busy year.
