Dear friend and fellow writer Heidi Ruby Miller (@heidirubymiller on Twitter) has a new novel out called AMBASADORA, and it is excellent. Romance, excitement, sex, violence, love — it’s all in there in a lovely SF package. Go forth and buy it.

MANY GENRES ONE CRAFT Officially Released!
I’m proud and excited to say that MANY GENRES ONE CRAFT, edited by Heidi Ruby Miller and Mike Arnzen and featuring my article, “Mood and Atmosphere in Horror,” has been officially released. I am delighted to be included among various genre professionals offering their quality advice and insight into the craft and business of genre fiction writing. This is a book definitely worht picking up, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
For those in the area, there will be a launch party at Seton Hill on Friday, June 24, 2011, at the 10th Annual Writing Popular Fiction Workshop, during the Wine Social & Book Signing. It will be held in McKenna Center Lounge from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Cathy Teets, owner of Headline Books, Inc. will be there to help celebrate as will the local press.
THRILLERS: 100 MUST READS Award Nominations
Well, sadly, Thrillers: 100 Must Reads didn’t win the Edgar, but I found out that it is one of three nominees in the Poetry/Literary Criticism category for the Ben Franklin Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards given to independent publishers by the Independent Book Publishers Association. The award is given out at BEA.
I’m proud to be a part of this book. π
UPDATE: I just found out the book has also been nominated for an Anthony Award. YAY!
Attn Film Students and Indie Film Folks
Ala Stephen King’s Dollar Babies, I’m trying an experiment. At the bottom of this post is a list of short stories for which the film rights are available. The very basics of the deal are that in exchange for $1 options to these stories, the resulting film can be shown on my website. If you would like to discuss details, please contact me by email.
I’m excited to see what folks come up with, and am looking forward to hearing from you.
For the short fiction available for option, check out Film Adaptations.
Writing Updates
I have some potential projects in the works that I want to squee and tell you about, but in most cases, I have to wait on giving the details. I can tease, though, and say that it juuuust maybe involves three or four new novels (one of which will be co-written with Brian), possible re-issues in new formats, and some possible new short fiction. There will likely be that Kindle version of UCN with a bonus story, and if that does well, I’d like to try a new short story collection that way. There is also an upcoming novella in an anthology (for which Brian, Nate, Wrath, and I signed aforementioned sig sheets). I’m very excited about all these projects, and not just because they will keep me busy and out of trouble. Also, soon to follow, an experiment of a nightmary variety. Keep watching this space for details.
2011 may turn out to be a good year yet. π
