2011 to be a Busy Year!

I’ve updated my schedule of appearances for the year.  Barring acts of God or alien abduction, I should be at those conventions and events listed on the Appearances page.  I will also being doing a live chat with Jason Miller — details coming soon.

Regarding upcoming work, there’s not much I can formally announce, but what I can say is that Thrall should be out in about 2-3 weeks.  My novella, Possessing Amy, should be out later this year — more news on that to follow.  My article on “Mood and Atmosphere in Horror” is scheduled to appear in Many Genres One Craft this spring.  There is also a possibility that Under Cover of Night, my short story collection from 2002, will be released in Kindle version, with a bonus story included.  I’ll keep folks updated on that.  I’m working on two other novellas and a novel, and have a few other projects in mind or in the works.

2011 is shaping up to be a very busy year.

Free Fiction Up at Nightmaries

So I have some free fiction up on the Nightmaries page of my website.  Ok, so it’s not a new story (it’s a reprint of  an old ghost story that appeard on Horror World once upon a time), but I suspect it’s new to a whole bunch of folks.  So if you’re interested, check it out and let me know what you think!  More new stuff this weekend.

THRALL
Reservations are now being taken for my new novel, THRALL, through Thunderstorm Books. The book is a signed, limited-edition hardcover featuring the novel as well as two bonus stories, “Kins” and “The Days After the World Went Away.”

The last thing JESSE COAGLAN ever wanted to do was return to his hometown of Thrall, New Jersey. Tucked away in the wilds of the northwestern corner of the state, Thrall has always been a very strange place to live. The town was a poison that affected people’s minds, their souls, their bodies, and their perspectives. So Jesse abandoned his friends and the one woman he loved, and left everything behind. Seven years later, Jesse has found a reason to return – a reason that, in spite of his best attempts otherwise, he can’t ignore. His old love, Mia Dalianis, has left him a voicemail message begging him to come back, if not for her, then for the daughter Jesse never knew he had. Jesse needs to go back. He’s been running for a long time – from relationships, friendships, everything he is afraid of and feels guilty over. He realizes that the nightmares will never stop until he goes to Thrall. With help from Nadia Richards and some old surviving friends from Thrall, Jesse intends to find his daughter or die trying. He goes looking for redemption, but what he discovers about his old hometown may destroy him and everyone he’s ever cared about.

F. Paul Wilson says of the book: “THRALL is a feast of both visceral and existential horror—the gut tightens and the mind reels. Mary SanGiovanni joins that select cadre of women writers who are ignoring the safe old tropes and pushing the genre in new directions.”

Mood and Atmosphere Article to be Published in Spring

My article on Mood and Atmosphere in Horror is scheduled to appear in MANY GENRES, ONE CRAFT, along with about 60 other contributions on the techniques and mechanics of writing genre fiction. This book, edited by writers Heidi Ruby Miller and Mike Arnzen, is to be published by Headline Books for a Spring 2011 release in hardcover and later, trade paperback. I understand the book will be at international book fairs and at Book Expo America. I’m very excited to be a part of this project.

THRALL – What folks are Saying Part 1

What F. Paul Wilson, author of the REPAIRMAN JACK series, says about my upcoming novel, THRALL:

“Thrall is a feast of both visceral and existential horror – the gut tightens and the mind reels. Mary Sangiovanni joins that select cadre of women writers who are ignoring the safe old tropes and pushing the genre in new directions.”

THRALL will be available early next year, for the interested — pre-orders in about a month. YAY!!!

Thanks

Hey, I wanted to thank all the folks that are leaving such kind and thoughtful comments over at Literary Mayhem. I’m so pleased you liked the story. I received the books to sign for the giveaway, and will be doing that tonight. Good luck!
