Some Updates

Hi, folks.  A few quick updates:

First, thanks to everyone who came out to see us this past weekend at Scares That Care. I understand the charity made some money for needy families, and that makes me happy.  A special thanks to the organizers for putting on such a fun weekend for such a worthwhile cause.

Second, I will be at NECon in two weeks — more info on programming and whatnot to follow.  Further, I will be making an appearance with Brian Keene at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, VA this month as well.  Brian and I will be signing books and doing a Q&A with audience members.

A signed, limited edition hard cover version of my recent short story collection, A Darkling Plain, should be available soon. I’ll keep you posted.

Shadows over Main StreetA few of my short stories will be appearing in various anthologies and chapbook venues in the next couple of months. I can’t get into details about all of them, but I can tell you that my short story, “The Floodgates of Willowhill,” will be appearing in the anthology Shadows Over Main Street, edited by Doug Murano and D. Alexander Ward.  There are some phenomenal authors in this one, so I hope you’ll consider checking it out.

Finally, a teaser from the new novel, The Blue People:

They seemed to be made of a translucent blue, somewhat crystalline substance that molded itself, at will, into the semblance of a tall, gaunt person-shape. This shape, with its long, rather sharp features, was swathed in an assortment of sapphire folds of plush cloth embroidered, or so it looked, with silvery-white threads, so that only the skeletal head and hands could be seen. In the cavernous sockets of their eyes was a deep blackness that seemed almost a tangible thing.

The being in front opened its mouth and the others followed suit; a bright light issued from their throats and carried their voices in unison to her. “We were summoned.”

A Few Quick Things

Hey folks — a few quick things that may be of interest:

This is the final week that Midnight Symphony, an anthology of novellas by some awesome writers (and me), will be available. This e-book anthology has largely been well-received, including a pretty great review on the FEARNET website, and many of these novellas are either unavailable elsewhere or extremely rare and hard to come by. If you were thinking of picking it up, this is the last chance. Available here for only $2.99!

A beautiful limited edition version of my short story collection, A Darkling Plain, is forthcoming. Details are on the way as soon as I can make them available.

I will likely be having short fiction appearing in a magazine, a chapbook, and an anthology in the next six months. Also, later in the year, there will be a new novel about ghosts, sort of, and an audiobook version of The Hollower. I’m excited about these projects. Details to follow.

Since next month is WOMEN IN HORROR month, look for interviews of me conducted by Gef Fox and also by Jeff Heimbuch for Lamplight Magazine. Also in February will be the release of my new novella The Fading Place by DarkFuse books. Those interested in preordering the book can get it for a discount now.

On Monday, Feb. 3, A WRITER’S LIFE will host one of the stops on the Les Daniels Blog Tour, celebrating the work of late Necon favorite, author Les Daniels. The incredibly witty Matt Bechtel of Necon E-books will be offering a guest blog post (“Witches, Victims and Gods: The Women of The Don Sebastian Chronicles“).

On Wednesday, Feb. 5th, I will have a new post up on Apex Publishing’s blog. Linkage will follow.

Finally, today (January 28) is my birthday, so if you’re waiting on an email/call/text/smoke signal/response to anything, I should hopefully be all caught up after today — Friday the latest.

New Interview

I was recently interviewed by Celebrate Knoxville for this awesome month of horror, Halloween, and all things scary, thanks to Laura Long Martin. 🙂 You can read it here, if you like.

Chris Oxer

Sabas Moreno, Jr.

Dominic Gasbarro

Congratulations to the winners!  I look forward to killing you off as characters in my next novel! 😀 And thank you so much for allowing me the use of your names.  Also, as a small legal aside, Paul Goblirsch of Thunderstorm Books has likely already contacted you asking for official permission for the use of your names; if you haven’t already and would still like to be among my newest victims, please make sure you do relay that permission to Paul.  Thanks!

Also, I wanted to announce that my upcoming fiction collection, A Darkling Plain, will be available next month in both paperback and e-book.

Upcoming Coolness

A few announcements on upcoming things:

Fans of Jack Ketchum will want to check this space out come September 11th — I’m the 2nd stop on his blog tour promoting I’m Not Sam and I’ll be featuring a special guest blog post by him!  I’m delighted that he will be stopping by.  🙂

I understand the Thrall audiobook is on sale through Dark Realms for only $5.95 until September 2nd — now’s your time to pick one up at its low sales price!

Also, as my first foray into Kindle self-publishing, I have finished the ms for a new short story collection called A Darkling Plain.  The collection will feature 10 short stories spanning over a decade of my short fiction writing, including many hard-to-find and out-of-print stories and story notes at the end.  Once it’s up and running, I’ll post ordering details.

A short story of mine called “The Anathema Cell” should be appearing in chapbook form soon — details to follow.

Finally, for those interested in this sort of thing, I am a quarter of the way through a new novel.  I hope to be able to announce more about this soon.
